Squarespace implementation for a family office

What the site is

Buckland is a family office investing in private businesses and sustainable development, with interests in manufacturing, rail, renewable energy and construction. The site conveys their long-term, patient approach to capital investment and introduces their team and portfolio companies.

What I built

Barlow & Co provided the branding, the design assets and a wireframe; my job was to realise them on Squarespace, which the client had specified. I was new to Squarespace at the time — it didn’t get in the way of delivery. The build included custom JavaScript for the Our Companies page (animated portfolio logos with interactive hover effects), responsive design optimisation for mobile and tablet, domain configuration, bio revisions, news article management and custom HTML footer work.

A note on Squarespace

Honest verdict: Squarespace is even more limiting than WordPress. The hover-over portfolio logos — logo on screen, hover reveals the company’s info — immediately required custom JavaScript and ate development time. The same feature would have been easier in WordPress, and far quicker still on the Astro and Cloudflare stack I build on now. I can build on Squarespace when it’s what the client specifies — as here — but I generally advise against it.
